CitationsAI Inspector is a browser extension that helps you see which sources AI answer engines cite and audit pages for citability. This page explains, plainly, what data the extension and this website handle.
The extension
The extension stores its settings — including your own domain, which you enter so it can flag whether you’re cited in an answer — locally in your browser, using Chrome’s built-in storage. That data does not leave your device.
It collects no analytics and no telemetry. We don’t know how many people use it, what they search for, or what pages they audit, because nothing is sent to us to tell us.
It sends no browsing data anywhere. The only network requests the extension makes are:
- Fetching public configuration JSON (audit rules and DOM selectors) from citationsai.com, so the extension can update its rules without a Chrome Web Store re-review.
- Requests to chatgpt.com made within your own logged-in session, to read the citations already rendered on screen in your own conversations. The extension does not proxy, log, or transmit the content of those conversations to us or anyone else.
This website
citationsai.com collects an email address only if you voluntarily submit it through the signup form. That address is stored with our email provider, Resend, solely to notify you when the extension is available on the Chrome Web Store. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email we send.
The website itself runs no analytics, no tracking scripts, and sets no cookies beyond what’s strictly required to serve the pages you request.
